Letter Visibility with Motion

Custom signage is a great tool to help visitors identify and locate your business. But a sign is only as useful as it is visible. This fact alone becomes even more important when your audience is on the move, creating a scenario in which there is less time to see your sign as they drive by.


While designing signage, choosing the appropriate letter height, also known as Cap Height, is key to ensuring your sign can be safely and effectively read at the speed of travel. Your audience needs at least 5.25 seconds to accurately view any given sign. To utilize this information, we’ve developed the chart below to act as a quick reference that we use during the signage design process.
